We can get so focused on following “the plan” that we miss the opportunities that are right in front of us.  Often these opportunities give the tools we need for a future success.

What if there are connections that can help you reach your goals or shorten the distance between the lines you must cross?  What if you are missing a vital piece of knowledge that this could provide? What if someone is on that boat is waiting to help someone and it could be you?  What if there is funding available to help you realize your dream?

What if the dream you are chasing isn’t the really going to take you on the journey that you thought it would?

In other words, don’t cut off your nose to spite your face.  There is nothing wrong with exploring options outside of the plan that you originally had.  Rarely is the journey a straight path anyway.  Perhaps the boat that is in front of you or pulling into port is meant to take you where you are trying to go.

Perhaps that boat is like a big giant detour sign meant to prevent you from experiencing setbacks that may lie ahead.

I live in a semi-rural area and love to drive back roads.  I know them well.  Many of them, however, have signs posted that clearly state No Winter Maintenance.  After driving those roads over and over again in my all wheel drive go anywhere vehicle, I didn’t even think about winter service on a few of those roads. I knew them.  I was familiar with them. I know where the bumps are. I know instinctively when to shift into a lower gear. I know where the dangerous turns and slipping hillsides are.  I am always safe.
